Police investigating armed home invasion in GR

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police are investigating a home invasion and robbery that took place in broad daylight on the city’s northwest side on Tuesday.

Police say a man approached a resident in his home in the 400 block of Oakleigh Road just before 2 p.m. carrying a package and claiming the it was for the homeowner.

Once inside the home the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the resident whose child was also in the house.

A scuffle ensued and the suspect left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police are looking for a black man between 35 and 45 years old with scruffy facial hair and a thin build. Police say he is about 6′ tall and was last seen wearing dark sunglasses, a dark blue windbreaker and dark work pants.

Authorities have not received any other reports of this type of robbery.
