MECOSTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities in Mecosta County say one man sustained life-threatening injuries in a hit-and-run crash south of Big Rapids.

The wreck happened around 9 p.m. Saturday on southbound US-131 north of 11 Mile Road in Mecosta Township, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Department.

Witnesses told authorities that a black car with tinted windows sideswiped another vehicle. The second vehicle was forced into the ditch and rolled several times.

The driver of that car, 63-year-old Cedar Springs resident Russell DeBoer, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities are still looking for the driver of the black car that took off.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office at 231.592.0150.
