Army Sgt. surprises girlfriend at Whitecaps

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WOOD) — Monday night’s West Michigan Whitecaps game started off with a surprise soldier homecoming.

U.S. Army Sgt. Anthony Connell just returned from a tour of duty in Kuwait, but his girlfriend Amber Pate didn’t know that — so it was a shock for her when he popped out of the box during the Whitecaps’ traditional “What’s in the Box?” game.

She hurried to him, throwing her arms and legs around him.

The Whitecaps then went on to beat the Lansing Lugnuts 7-5.
