Students at Camp Shout Out learning to become great communicators

There’s one camp in West Michigan unlike any other in the country, where kids can just be kids, even if they struggle with stuttering. This week long camp in Holton, MI, has almost 50 campers, professional speech pathologists, graduate students and volunteers all working together.

Not only do the kids get great therapy, support and fun camp activities, professionals also get hands on training from some of the best in the country. The campers get to interact with other campers just like them. For most of them, this is the best week ever, leaving more confident and with tools and coping skills to become great communicators.

This year’s Connecting with Community Award winner was Camp Shout Out. As part of this honor, our crews were out at the camp this week to produce a public service spot that will run on our station for the next year. Here is a glimpse of this special camp for kids who struggle with stuttering as they learn to find their voice.
