GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Mattawan man who was found guilty of a slew of charges connected to the production and possession of child pornography is headed to a federal prison.

James Beckman Jr., 39, was sentenced to 30 years behind bars, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He was ordered to register as a sex offender after being released from prison, and will spend the rest of his life under supervised release.

He was also ordered to pay $32,480 in restitution to multiple victims.

Beckman was found guilty in March of 10 counts of attempting to sexually exploit a child, one count of attempting to coerce or entice a child to commit a sex act, two counts of distributing child pornography and two counts of receiving child pornography.

In 2012, Beckman sexually assaulted two young children, live-streaming video of the abuse to the Internet. In exchange, he received child pornography and “other things he deemed of value,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office says.

He was caught after a victim told an adult about the abuse. When authorities investigated, they found a child pornography trafficking network.

The case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.
