GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A 19-year-old woman ripped off tens of thousands of dollars in appliances and cash from the Grand Rapids Best Buy where she worked.
The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office says JoHanna Rae Taylor from Martin used her computer skills to scam Best Buy out of nearly $40,000 worth of appliances, electronics, gift cards and cash.
Authorities say she ordered items online and had them shipped to her home. She then used the computers at the East Beltline store where she worked to change the prices of the items to zero. She also made off with more than $3,600 in cash and more than $560 in gift cards.
Court records say it went on from before last Christmas until the end of May, when she was caught.
Taylor has pleaded guilty to embezzlement.
Sentencing is set for Sept. 9. Taylor face 10 years in prison and some big fines. She will also be required to pay restitution.
