GR finalist to host 2017 State Games of America

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids is in the running to host the 2017 State Games of America.

The event brings the medalists from state games around the country to one location every two years to compete.

There are three other cities under consideration to host the games: San Diego, Calif., Hampton Roads, Va. and Lincoln, Neb. Lincoln is hosting the 2015 games.

Officials will tour Grand Rapids next week, looking at sporting venues and hotels and speaking with planning personnel.
