Scrimmages before high school football season

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The high school football season starts in one week. Thursday, teams across West Michigan met for scrimmages.

The state champion Zeeland West Dux, the state finalist South Christian Sailors, the Hudsonville Eagles and the Coopersville Broncos met up for a four-team scrimmage.

The Dux’s wing-t still looks unstoppable and Sailor quarterback Johnny Wassink’s throw is still better than anyone on the west side of the state.

Expectations for Zeeland West and South Christian are high — and that’s the way they like it.

Another team to watch, once again, will be the Muskegon Big Reds.

Muskegon scrimmaged against the West Ottawa Panthers, the Northview Wildcats, and the Mattawan Wildcats Thursday.

The Big Reds open the season Aug. 29 at home against Detroit Catholic Central.
