Sheriff’s Office: Pedestrian shot in leg

SPRINGFIELD, Mich. (WOOD) — Calhoun County authorities are looking for the person in a vehicle who shot a pedestrian in Springfield.

The victim — a 19-year-old Battle Creek man — told Calhoun County sheriff’s deputies someone shot him as he walked in the area of Wellworth Avenue and North 26th Street Wednesday afternoon.

The victim said the shot was fired by someone in an eastbound vehicle described as a blue Chevrolet Malibu or Impala with dark-tinted windows. He said the gun involved was a handgun.

The victim said the suspect vehicle then drove away.

The victim sustained a non-life-threatening wound to the leg. He got himself to the hospital, which called the sheriff’s department.

The motive for the shooting is unknown. Anyone with information is asked to call the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office at 269.781.0880 or Silent Observer at 269.781.9700.
