Year-round school in Muskegon Heights

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WOOD) — School begins for students in Muskegon Heights on Monday.

This is the first year the school will have year-round school. The district recently got a grant for the program.

School officials said Friday it will help with retention of knowledge, and it’s also a safety issue.

It has been a violent summer in Muskegon Heights, with seven people being shot and killed.

Three of the people killed were Muskegon Heights students. Marquis Gresham, 17, died in April and 14-year-old Dmetrius Washington in July. Dequarius Love, also 17, was shot and killed last week.
