Deputies: Man shoots, hurts mom

SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Calhoun County authorities say a man shot and wounded his mother at their home north of Albion.

The shooting happened around 7:30 a.m. Monday in the 28000 block of J Drive North near 28 Mile Road in Sheridan Township, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the house on a report of a shooting, but they couldn’t find anyone when they arrived. They did, however, find evidence that someone had been hurt. Deputies later learned the victim had been taken to a hospital in Marshall.

The sheriff’s office said the victim was shot in the shoulder by her 39-year-old son at their house on J Drive. After she was shot, the woman ran to the driveway, got in a vehicle and fled. The son, deputies say, continued to fire at the vehicle as it left, striking it.

The 63-year-old woman went to another residence, and was from there taken to the hospital in Marshall.

Albion Public Safety officers later arrested the suspect.

He is expected to face charges of assault with intent to murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm and using a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The woman who was shot has been released from the hospital.
