A hidden gem in the heart of Chicago

Lincoln Square neighborhood in Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. (WOOD) If you’re itching to get out of town for Labor Day or planning a fall getaway, Chicago is a spot that’s fun for everyone in the family! You might already be familiar with the busy downtown area, but the city also has dozens of unique neighborhoods. One of them, Lincoln Square, is especially friendly and loaded with charm!

The Lincoln Square neighborhood is growing in popularity. It’s conveniently located just 15 minutes from downtown Chicago, but has a low key European feel. There are tons of small businesses, art galleries, and restaurants. It all centers around Giddings Plaza, which is a meeting place where kids can play, neighbors can meet, and events are held.

Gene’s Sausage Shop and Delicatessen is located in Lincoln Square. It is a traditional European market that is a combination grocery store, butcher shop, and sausage shop. They stock hard-to-find groceries and make 45 types of smoked meats and lunch meats. There is also a beer garden on the roof with a menu that changes weekly.

There’s a special event next month you may want to check out. “Apple Fest” is Saturday, September 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can enjoy all things apple… from pies to pizzas. There are apple-themed games for kids and much more.

While you’re planning your trip, start with the Choose Chicago website. It has links where you can find things to do, places to visit, information on hotels, and special deals.
