Battle Creek chooses new city manager

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Battle Creek city commissioners have chosen a new city manager.

Rebecca Fleury, who previously served as the Middleville village manager and finance director, was picked for the job Tuesday during a special meeting of the city commission, according to a release from the city.

The city says Fleury has also worked as the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety financial services manager.

Susan Bedsole, who has been serving as the interim city manager since former city manager Ken Tsuchiyama retired in February, was also one of the four finalists for the permanent job. The four finalists met with city residents Friday and then interviewed with the commission Saturday. The two finalists had a second interview Saturday afternoon.

The hiring process and contract negotiations are still underway, the city said, so it has not yet been determined when Fleury will start.
