Man who went under water in lake dies

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WOOD) — A man who was hospitalized after going under the water in a southwestern Michigan lake over the weekend has died.

Abdi Adan, 24, of Wheaton, Ill. died at 1:20 p.m. Monday, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say Adan went into Dewey Lake in Silver Creek Township, northwest of Dowagiac, Saturday afternoon. He began to struggle and went under the water.

Passersby pulled Adan out and performed CPR until emergency responders arrived, at which point Adan was airlifted to a South Bend, Ind. hospital.

The sheriff’s office said Adan was not wearing a life jacket when he went into the lake.
