KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed when a moped collided with a dump truck in Kalamazoo Township Monday afternoon.

It happened around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Nichols Road and Canterbury Avenue, according to the Kalamazoo Township Police Department. Police say a moped headed south on Nichols collided with a dump truck.

The moped driver, a 52-year-old Kalamazoo woman, was killed.

The dump truck had been southbound and was turning west onto Canterbury. Police don’t yet know if the moped driver continuing south or if she also tried to turn west onto Canterbury. Accident reconstructionists from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police are assisting in the investigation.

An autopsy for the moped driver is scheduled for Wednesday. Her name is being withheld pending notification of kin.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are thought to be factors in the crash, police said.

The driver of the dump truck, a 60-year-old Kalamazoo man, was not hurt.
