Sasquatch statue stolen from Hastings yard

HASTINGS, Mich. (WOOD) – The Barry County Prosecutor’s Office will decide whether to file charges against two people accused of stealing a large Sasquatch statue from the backyard of a Hastings resident.

The theft of the 7-foot-tall wooden statue occurred on Aug. 16, according to a release from the Hastings Police Department.

The two male suspects, whose names and ages weren’t released, were seen floating down the Thornapple River in tubes before getting out of the water, witnesses told police.

The witnesses took pictures of the suspects as they then stole the statue, police said, and gave those photos to authorities.

Police were able to identify the suspects, who initially denied stealing the Sasquatch, according to the release. But after officers told the suspects that witnesses had photos of them in the act, they admitted to the theft.
