Pedestrian hit and killed by driver

NORTON SHORES, Mich. (WOOD) — A pedestrian was hit and killed by the driver of a van while attempting to cross a Norton Shores road.

The victim, a 57-year-old Muskegon man, was crossing Seaway Drive at Norton Avenue when he was hit by a minivan around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The minivan, driven by a 63-year-old Muskegon man, was heading westbound on Seaway Drive and reported having a green light at Norton Avenue. As he was approaching the intersection, he saw the pedestrian and attempted to stop, but was unable to.

He was taken to a local hospital but did not survive his injuries, according to police.

His identity is being withheld until family members are notified.

The crash remains under investigation.
