HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – Two people were killed in a head-on crash Thursday morning on Red Arrow Highway in Van Buren County, according to Michigan State Police.
The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. near 70th Street in Hartford Township, MSP said. Police say a 2007 Honda driven by a 66-year-old man from Watervliet collided with a Ford Escape that was driven by a 70-year-old Hartford man.
The 91-year-old female passenger in the Honda died at the scene, police said.
“When the troopers and the deputies first arrived, both patients were still in the vehicles,” MSP Sgt. Scott Ernstes said. “There was some extrication done to remove the deceased, as well as the critically injured driver.”
The driver of the Honda was taken to a hospital in St. Joseph, where he pronounced dead, police said.
The driver of the Escape was taken to a hospital in Watervliet, where he was listed in stable condition.
All three victims, whose names have not yet been released, were wearing seat belts.
A stretch of Red Arrow Highway was closed for several hours as police investigated.
