Living a life beyond expectations

A patient learns to walk with prosthetics at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Many of us take our health for granted and cannot even begin to imagine what it’s like to lose an arm or a leg, and the difficult challenges that go with that. A West Michigan woman, Pam Buschle, lost both arms and both legs after a routine surgery led to a terrible infection.

Buschle went to Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital to begin her journey to recovery. She had to figure out how to move in her body again, including learning how to walk again and use prosthetics. Mary Free Bed not only helped her with her physical recovery, but also with her emotional and psychological recovery. It took four months for Buschle to be able to return home.

If you are facing a situation and need rehabilitation, ask for a referral to a Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital physician. They can oversee your medical care and your transition to rehabilitation. You can also visit their website or call 1-855-ASK-MARY.

You can help Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital by participating in the Reeds Lake Triathlon & Duathlon. It’s on Saturday, September 6 at John Collins Park in East Grand Rapids. Proceeds go to the Mary Free Bed clinical department. To learn more, visit the Reeds Lake Triathlon website.
