Man arrested for domestic assault and kidnapping

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A 22-year-old Battle Creek man was arrested after assaulting a woman and kidnapping her and her small child Friday.

Around 1 p.m. a person called police to report that a woman with a small child was being assaulted and was fleeing from a vehicle near Upton Avenue and Washington Avenue, according to a Battle Creek news release.

The suspect, a 22-year-old Battle Creek man, then grabbed the woman, dragging her back to the car with her child and fled the area.

The suspect took the mother and child to another location on Washington Avenue where she was able to get the man to leave.

The woman was treated for injuries from the assault.

Police were able to find the man in the 400 block of W VanBuren Street where he was arrested. He is in the Calhoun County jail on domestic assault and kidnapping charges.
