KDPS officers to wear body cams for pilot program

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) – The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety will be increasing transparency by using body cameras on officers.

The pilot program will put at least two cameras on the streets. Officials said they have been working on this project for months.

The department will be using a brand of body cameras made by Coban. The cameras will be worn on the chest of an officer.

The devices can record audio and have a wide-angle lens for video, and can be used for everything from routine patrols to interviews with suspects.

The program is expected to roll-out in the next month.
