PAW PAW, Mich. (WOOD) – Paw Paw High School woodworking students will be teaming up with artists for the 2014 ArtPrize competition.

The students are working with artists Micah Silver and Adam Schoenberg on a project called “MUSICX.”

Silver was interested to work with the students after he learned that the high school had recently installed a computer numerical control router – a machine that creates objects from wood – in the wood shop.

The Paw Paw High School CNC router is one of the few in Southwest Michigan.

The students are using the machine to create a small stage, fabricate the seating and raised platform portion of the exhibit.

The project “combines exhibition and artwork along with a learning platform,” a Paw Paw Public Schools news release said.

MUSICX will open for viewing on Sept. 13 at the Urban Institute of Contemporary Arts in Grand Rapids.
