12-year-old boy dies after crashing ATV

NILES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – A 12-year-old boy has died after crashing his ATV into a parked car Sunday.

It happened in the 2300 block of Walton Road around 3:30 p.m., according a Berrien County Sheriff’s Department news release.

The 12-year-old was riding a Yamaha Kodiak ATV when he hit a parked car and was thrown from the vehicle.

Witnesses told authorities the ATV was resting on top of the boy.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the release said.

The accident remains under investigation.
