Pepper spray used on WMU crowds

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Officers lined the streets at Western Michigan University Sunday morning to disperse rowdy crowds.

According to officials, students packed the areas in and around campus for “Welcome Weekend.”

Students told our crews on scene that officers used pepper spray a couple of times, including at the Main Street Town homes. However, students said there was not a SWAT-like presence like the year before.

24 Hour News 8 put in calls to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and will provide more information as soon as it becomes available.
