Teen crashes into power pole causing power outage

GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – Three teens are recovering after a car crash in Grand Haven Township Saturday.

The single car accident happened around 9 p.m. on Mercury Drive near Bignell Street, according to authorities.

Adam Penland, 17, was driving when he hit a curb and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then hit a power pole, snapping the pole in half and causing a power outage to the nearby area, police said.

Penland suffered minor injuries. Sierra Young, 17, was a passenger in the vehicle, suffered a leg injury and was taken to the hospital for treatment. A third passenger, a 15-year-old boy, was unhurt.

Everyone involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The accident, clean-up and power repairs closed a portion of Mercury Drive for several hours. Power was restored around 5 a.m. Sunday.
