1 killed in Zeeland Twp. chain-reaction crash

ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was killed in a chain-reaction crash just east of Zeeland Tuesday morning, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Henry Redder, 82, of Zeeland died after his minivan was hit by a van driven by 68-year-old Jose Garcia in the intersection of the I-196 business loop and Main Avenue around 10:30 a.m., investigators said.

Investigators said Garcia was headed west on the business loop when he ran a red light and hit Redder, who was headed north onto Main Avenue. The impact caused both vans to skid and hit a truck that was turning onto the westbound lanes of the business loop from Main Avenue. The truck was then pushed into another vehicle making the same turn.

Redder was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, authorities said. Garcia was taken to an area hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

The other two drivers weren’t hurt.

The crash is still under investigation. Check back with woodtv.com for updates.
