GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — One of a set of twins accused of beating and raping a prostitute in Grand Rapids has been sentenced.
Peter Versluys was sentenced Thursday to between 23 and 50 years in prison and a lifetime on an electronic tether following his release. He was also ordered to pay restitution to cover the victim’s medical expenses.
The assault happened in late May. Police say Peter and Michael Versluys attacked the woman after one of the twins refused to pay her for engaging in sexual acts with him. She sustained severe injuries to the face and head and needed to undergo facial reconstruction.
Peter Versluys pleaded guilty to his part in the crime in July. He also implicated his brother.
Michael Versluys is scheduled to stand trial starting on Oct. 20.
