GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) With school sports comes the risk of injury. Few injuries have gotten as much attention in recent years as concussions.
Experts at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital say many parents and athletes don’t realize other sports like soccer and volleyball have similar rates of concussion as football.
Rockford teen Max got a concussion in 7th grade while playing football. It was a severe concussion that caused him to forget the first half of his school year and he developed a twitch. Max and his family worked with a team of doctors and specialists at Helen DeVos for treatment, and he is now back playing sports with no restrictions.
Symptoms of concussion
- Blurred vision
- Memory loss
If Athlete Has Symptoms
- Take them out of the game
- No screen time (TV, phone, computers)
