1 killed in rollover on I-96 near Muskegon

FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was killed Sunday morning in a single-vehicle rollover crash southeast of Muskegon.

The wreck happened around 5:40 a.m. on westbound I-96 near mile marker 2. The Fruitport Township Police Department says a vehicle left the road and went into the median, then drove back onto the road, then left the right side of the road and rolled over.

The driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Thomas Wayne Chandler of Muskegon County, was pronounced dead on the scene.

His passenger, a 22-year-old Muskegon County man, survived. He was hospitalized with minor injuries and then released.

One lane of the highway was shut down for a time as emergency responders were on scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
