GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Officials are having trouble finding a man’s car after he drove into the Grand River.

The car went into the river near Riverside Park in Grand Rapids around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. The driver, who was the only person in the car, swam to shore.

Authorities know approximately where the car went into the river, but it is submerged too deep and the water is too murky to find it, Grand Rapids Police Department Lt. Mike Maycroft said Sunday.

Maycroft said GRPD would ask the Kent County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team to search for the car.

The Dive Team took to the river Monday, but couldn’t find the car — the water still wasn’t clear enough.

It’s still not clear what caused the man to drive into the river.
