Teen driver collides with train in Portage

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — A teen driver was hospitalized after colliding with a train in Portage.

The 16-year-old girl from Portage was heading southbound on Shaver Road and turned east on West Melody when she collided with the southbound train around 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Witnesses told police the railroad crossing signals were functioning properly when the teen turned into the path of the train.

She suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
