Celebrate 85 years of the Grand Rapids Symphony

Grand Rapids Symphony

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) 2014 is a really big year for an institution that has made a huge mark in our community and has provided countless hours of listening pleasure to so many. It’s the Grand Rapids Symphony’s 85th anniversary season, and it’s kicking off in a very big way!

This is David Lockington’s last season as music director of the symphony. It’s his 16th season and in that time, the symphony has seen its education programs and audience grow.

The symphony season is kicking off with Beethoven’s Fifth, and is holding a fun contest for you to win tickets! “Belt it Like Beethoven” encourages you to make a video singing the first four notes of Beethoven’s Fifth. Upload it to Facebook by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17 for a chance to win tickets to the opening night show.

Beethoven’s Fifth is on September 19 and 20 at DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids. The Grand Rapids Symphony is also performing alongside Ben Folds for a special concert on October 18. Concerts are at 8 p.m. For information on tickets and a calendar of concerts, visit the Grand Rapids Symphony website.
