GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A workshop to help people with minor criminal records get back into the workforce is underway in Grand Rapids.

The expungement event is basically a process for people with specific, low-level crimes to get their record sealed so they can get school loans and jobs.

The United Way and other organizations are working together to help start the expungement process for people interested in help.

“We have people who really want to be productive citizens who have made mistakes,” said Brenda Brame, a volunteer with Heart of West Michigan United Way.

A workshop is being held at the Wealthy Theater in Grand Rapids until 3 p.m. Friday.
