GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) We celebrate a lot of things – birthdays, holidays, marriages, and new jobs – but we don’t always celebrate some other important milestones like overcoming substance use and addiction. That’s the idea behind a big event on September 20 called “Recovery Palooza.”
Recovery Allies and network180 are partnering to bring the Celebration Recovery event to Grand Rapids this year. It’s the eighth year for the event, which includes a walk across the Gillette Bridge, a program, and a family event with cookout and games and activities.
The purpose of Recovery Palooza is to signify that recovery is possible and to show what it looks like. Many people don’t talk about surviving addiction the way they talk about surviving other conditions like cancer. This event celebrates recovery and shows that there is hope.
