Driver: Heel of shoe stuck when cyclist hit

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) – A cyclist is in stable condition after being hit by vehicle and thrown 75 feet Wednesday morning in Ottawa County.

It happened around 8 a.m. on westbound Chicago Drive near 40th Avenue in Georgetown Township, according to authorities.

Sidney Paul DeWindt of Georgetown Township was on the right shoulder riding a recumbent bicycle – a bike that puts the rider in a reclined position – when 47-year-old Loreen Dennis of Jenison hit him.

Dennis told authorities the heel of her shoe got caught in the floor mat when she drifted onto the shoulder of Chicago Drive and hit DeWindt.

DeWindt was thrown 75 feet into a ditch. He was taken to the hospital with only bumps and bruises.

Dennis wasn’t injured during the accident.
