Man killed trying to load boat on trailer

PORT SHELDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An Ottawa County man died Wednesday after an accident while loading his boat onto a trailer.

The accident happened around 10 a.m. as Raymond Van Heuvelen, 60, was loading his boat onto a trailer from his garage, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Van Heuevelen stepped behind the trailer as another man man backed into the garage, and was trapped between a diving platform at the rear of the boat and a metal storage shelf standing against the back wall of the garage.

Van Heuvelen sustained serious injuries to his chest. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
