WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) There is an event on Saturday, October 11, to remember a Walker police officer killed in the line of duty. Trevor Slot was killed on October 13, 2011 while trying to stop two fleeing bank robbers. The annual Officer Slot Memorial 5K is held each year to raise money for the Trevor Slot Foundation. This year, the event is sponsored by Applebee’s.
The Trevor Slot Foundation provides scholarships for students at Northville, Grandville, and Kenowa Hills High Schools who are pursuing a career in law enforcement.
The Officer Slot Memorial 5K is a non-competitive walk or run. Families are encouraged to bring children and strollers. The event kicks off at 1:30 p.m. with a remembrance ceremony to honor Officer Slot at the Walker Police and Fire Memorial. The run/walk begins at 3 p.m. in front of the Walker Public Safety Building on Remembrance Road.
Applebee’s and TEAM Schostak is the headline sponsor of the event. It is the company’s mission to give back to the community and celebrate hometown heroes.
