ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) — Friends say it was not like 22-year-old Christal Parrish, the missing former Holland resident, to just check out.

“All I know is that this is not like her. Something’s wrong,” said Parrish’s friend, Melody Borst. “And I don’t know what it is, but something is defiantly wrong.”

On Sept. 29, Parrish, who moved to Huron Township, which is about 25 miles southwest of Detroit earlier this year, told friends she was coming back to Holland for a visit.

She Facebook messaged one of those friends that day.

“She had $20. And that she was going to try to make it to Holland — drive to Holland form Detroit,” said Borst, who kept that last message on her phone.

But Parrish never made it to her destination: another friend’s apartment on Holland’s south side.

Ten days later, no one can explain the disappearance.

Police got involved late Tuesday. While there’s no obvious signs of a crime, Parrish’s Facebook account has been deactivated.

It’s something her friends say she would never do.

“She’s a very social person. She was always on Facebook,” Borst said. “Never went a single day without talking to somebody, either myself, her best friend Naomi, anybody. Her family. For her to be missing for one day is shocking. And it’s been 10.”

Police in Huron Township say one of the leads they’re chasing is a message sent from a tough-to-trace, internet-generated phone number that suggests Parrish was kidnapped.

They’re still trying to determine the legitimacy of that message, which was not very specific.

“What we’re unsure of at this point is whether that’s a hoax or if that’s really the person that she’s with,” said Huron Township Police Chief Everette Robbins. “They’re working on a search warrant to try to harvest electronic information from Facebook and other sources to try to get some answers.”

Friends have taken to took to Facebook and to TV to get the word out.

24 Hour News 8 asked Borst if anyone would want to hurt Parrish.

“No, honestly,” she said. “Everybody has their friends and everybody has their foes… and she had a few, but nobody that would [hurt her].”

Parrish was last seen driving a dark green 1997 Toyota Rav4 with a Michigan license plate of 8040G9.

Police are not conducting ground searches because they don’t know where to begin.
