GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants held an event in West Michigan and across the state Monday morning to help the public prepare for retirement.
There were eight locations that held the event including Alpena, Detroit, Escanaba, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, Three Rivers, West Branch and Grand Rapids.
In Grand Rapids, the event, called “Reinventing Michigan Retirement: Achieving Financial Security to last a Lifetime,” was held at the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan.
The event was free and open to the public. It provided resources, tools and presentations for those approaching or in retirement.
“What’s going to happen when I retire, when everybody else retires, how are we going to be able to sustain ourselves. With this going on today and at eight other different sites as well as across Michigan, it educates individuals and provides them with a tool and resources where they can go to ask questions,” said Tracy Lord Bishop, the Education Administrator for the Department of Insurance and Financial Services.
It also featured a resource fair with information booths, financial workshops, one-on-one checkups, and provided attendees with a tool-kit of resources.
Organizers said they plan to hold more events of its kind in the upcoming year.
