PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Portage police are looking for a sexual assault suspect who failed to show up for court and may be suicidal.
Fred Garnish, 28, is considered a missing and endangered, according to a Monday release from the Portage Department of Public Safety. He was last seen on Oct. 13, when he was making suicidal statements, police said.
There is an outstanding warrant for Garnish’s arrest because he recently missed a court hearing in Ottawa County for a sexual assault charge.
A tent is missing from Garnish’s home, and police say it’s possible he’s in an isolated area because he has been described as a “survivalist type.”
Garnish previously lived in Ottawa County and also has contacts Muskegon County.
Garnish was last seen in his blue 2011 Hyundai Elantra, a four-door sedan. The Elantra’s Michigan license plate is DCK2989.
Anyone with information about Garnish’s whereabouts is asked to call Portage police at 269.329.4567 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
