FREMONT, Mich. (WOOD) — Fifteen area fire departments responded to a fire at David Allen Racing Motorsports near Fremont Wednesday evening.

The motorsports dealer, which was formerly Powers Motorsports, is near the intersection of M-120 and M-82, west of Fremont.

About half of the building burned in the fire which started around 7:45 p.m., according to Hesperia Fire Chief Dwayne Tinkham.

With the help from firefighters, employees were able to save some of the snowmobiles and other stock inside the warehouse.

A woman who lives about two miles away from the motorsports dealer told 24 Hour News 8 she heard an explosion and that’s when she realized what was going on.

“There were a lot of trees between here and my house and you could see them [flames] over all the trees. As soon as we left our house we could see the ball of fire,” said Louanne Purdy.

Fire crews remained on scene until just after 3 a.m. Thursday.

No one was injured in the fire.

Chief Tinkham says the fire marshal will be on scene to determine the cause sometime Thursday morning.
