Man shot and killed in Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — The Battle Creek Police Department is investigating a homicide that happened early Sunday.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Parkway Drive. Officers were called to the area on reports of a shooting, according to a news release.

When officers arrived, they were told the victim, 32-year-old Xavier Lavosky Embry, was driving himself to the hospital. They spotted the vehicle on Wood Street, where it had crashed into a tree.

Embry was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Officers located the suspect, a 30-year-old man, at a house on Howland Street. The suspect was interviewed and then taken to the Calhoun County Jail on homicide charges.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting have not yet been made public.

The case remains under investigation.
