KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kalamazoo woman is facing federal charges after allegedly engaging in sex acts with her infant granddaughter and then sending the pictures to a man she met online.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said the investigation into the 40-year-old woman stemmed from another investigation into a Flint-area man that was manufacturing child pornography between January 2013 and July 14, 2013.
After obtaining a warrant to search the man’s home on October 29, 2014, he agreed to speak with FBI agents.
He confessed to maintaining an online profile of an 11-year-old boy and that’s when he met the woman from Kalamazoo through a social media website, according to an affidavit filed by federal investigators following a criminal complaint against her in Flint U.S. District Court. They began to engage in a role playing rape fantasy involving the fake 11-year-old’s younger sister.
The fantasy took a turn when the woman allegedly began texting him pictures of sex acts involving her and her infant granddaughter.
After checking cell phone records, the FBI discovered 2,000 contacts between the man and the woman between January 1, 2014, until October 1, 2014.
The FBI said the Kalamazoo woman also posted five pictures to her Facebook account of her holding a young girl — believed to be her granddaughter — in a room with concrete block walls.
On November 10, 2014, the FBI executed a search warrant at the woman’s home. She was apparently living with several people including her 10-month-old baby, two daughters, granddaughter, sister, mother, and two teenage kids.
During an interview with the FBI, the 40-year-old woman discussed sexually abusing her granddaughter, as well as engaging in a sex act with a small dog.
She is currently in custody and the judge ordered her to be held without bond, saying she poses a danger to the public.
In justifying the decision to hold the Kalamazoo woman in jail until trial, a federal judge wrote, “Since those events, defendant allowed an adult male to take nude photographs of her infant grandchild (for which he was prosecuted in state court).”
24 Hour News 8 has learned that man is 41-year-old Mark Tooley of Vicksburg, who previously pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct and possession of child sexually abusive material. He is scheduled to be sentenced in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court on Dec. 1
It does not appear that the grandmother faced any charges as a result of the Tooley case.
