Boy, 4, hurt when truck rolls down embankment

ALLENDALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 4-year old was hospitalized Thursday after a pickup truck lost on an icy bridge and then rolled down an embankment toward the Grand River.

The wreck happened around noon on the 68th Avenue bridge over the Grand River near Allendale, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Julio Villanueva, 35, of Coopersville was driving south when he lost control of his 2003 Dodge Ram on the icy bridge. The pickup crossed the centerline, hit the guardrail on the east side of the road, went over the side of the bridge and then rolled down an embankment. The truck came to a stop near the Grand River.

Villanueva’s 4-year-old son Caesar was in the truck with him at the time of the crash and was seriously hurt. Villanueva carried his son up the embankment to the road, where he was met by emergency responders.

Caesar was taken to the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital for treatment but has since been released.
