WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — Geeks, nerds and pop culture fans of West Michigan rejoice! It’s time for the Grand Rapids Comic-Con.
The convention opened its’ doors late Friday afternoon and people have been lined up for three hours to get in. There are over 50 booths set up at the DeltaPlex and they are ready to hook fans up with all the fanboy gear you could want.
They are expecting close to 30,000 people to attend this year’s event.
Last year, they had to turn thousands away when the event outgrew the home-school building in Wyoming. Organizers of this year’s event are wondering how long it will be before they outgrow the DeltaPlex.
“By the time we’re done with this show, we have to gear up for both 2015 and 2016 show which is looking like it’s going to be downtown by the number of people [that] are here. We are going to blow this place out,” Will Burgess, logistics coordinator at GR Comic-Con. “Probably Van Andel and DeVos Hall and the Amway Grand and all those hotels downtown. It will be a multi-venue event very soon.”
Grand Rapids Comic-Con is going on until 9 p.m. Friday, then continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
