Hope volleyball team wins national championship

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WOOD) — Hope College has won the NCAA Division III national volleyball championship.

The Flying Dutch defeated Emory University Monday afternoon at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va., 3-2. The five set scores were 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 24-26 and 15-8.

Before going on to win the national championship in its division, Hope defeated Calvin College 3-0 on Saturday night.

The team, which ended its season with a 34-2 record, is expected to return to Holland late Monday night with a welcome party at DeVos Fieldhouse at 12:30 a.m.
