LEROY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A home is damaged after a fire sparked in Calhoun County Saturday night.
The fire happened at a home near Hoag Road and Capital Avenue in Leroy Township.
According to the fire captain on scene, the fire started in the attached garage of the home, but quickly spread and caused major damage to the kitchen.
The family living in the home heard popping sounds and called police.
“Everybody was out of the house when we got here with the exception of two cats. Both of the cats did not make it out. We found them, but it was too late,” said Mike Wilson, a fire official on scene.
Investigators are working to learn what caused the fire and it remains under investigation.
