KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) –The state says it is contracting Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services to conduct an independent evaluation of the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital.
The Michigan Department of Community Health announced Monday the evaluation is the next step in addressing the alleged culture problem at the hospital and the recent investigation into alleged violation of patient rights.
The evaluation will focus on inpatient care, organizational structure and staff, the state says.
Allen Jansen, the current interim director of the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital and former corporate director of community and residential services at Pine Rest, will work with Pine Rest staff throughout evaluation to make sure it is conducted efficiently and effectively, according to an MDCH news release.
A total of 28 hospital workers have been suspended with pay as authorities investigate whether these employees’ actions were criminal.
The state says the evaluation is expected to run through January, 2015.
