Red Kettle donations help feed kids

NILES, Mich. (WOOD) The Angel Tree toy drive helps provide toys for families throughout West MI this holiday season and the Red Kettle Campaign raises money for the many services the Salvation Army offers all year long.

One of the programs that benefits from Red Kettle contributions is the Salvation Army’s Red Backpack program. For many kids, the only food they get during the week is free lunch at school. Hunger can lead to missing school and low test scores. The Red Backpack program hopes to combat that by providing a backpack to students that contains enough food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday and Sunday.
