GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) The skating rink at Rosa Parks Circle is now open in downtown Grand Rapids! Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for kids 17 and under. The rink is open Mondays from to 5:45 p.m. and Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 9:45 p.m.

The Grand Rapids Art Museum has great opportunities if you’re taking the family downtown to skate.

Skate and Create

Skate and Create takes place every Saturday through March 7. Enjoy skating at Rosa Parks Circle before warming up with a cup of free hot cocoa and art-making fun in GRAMStudio! Each Saturday has a different craft project. It’s free for members. Non-members can get a coupon at skate rental for $1 off general admission. Skate and Create is from 1 to 4 p.m.

Drop-In Tours

The Grand Rapids Art Museum is offering guided tours of the galleries with Drop-In Tours on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and after Classical Concerts. It’s free for members, or free with general admission for non-members. Drop-In Tours allow you an inside look at the art in its special exhibitions. The tour can be geared toward adults or children. Tours meet in the Museum lobby.

Winter Art Camp

For a special experience, Winter Art Camp offers students a glimpse into the creative world. The two-day camp takes place on January 2 and 3, 2015. It is inspired by the costumes and set designs of Chris van Allsburg and Eugene Lee for the Grand Rapids Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker. Camp includes visits to GRAM’s galleries for students to explore the sketches and drawings used to bring the set of The Nutcracker to life. Campers will work together to rewrite, recreate, and perform their own version of this historic tale. A performance of the campers’ production will be held at GRAM’s Education Center on Saturday, January 3 at 12:30 p.m. Winter Art Camp is $30 for members and $40 for non-members.

Sunday Classical Concert Series

The Sunday Classical Concert Series takes place on Sundays at the GRAM through March 22. The Series is a showcase of 20 performances by world-renowned musicians. Wege Pavilion offers a unique venue for experiencing live classical music amidst GRAM’s beautiful architecture. The concerts are from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. They are free for members, or free with general admission for non-members.
